  • Rhubarb Cottage 36 Ballysillan Road Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT14 7QQ United Kingdom (map)

A 250-year-old cottage becomes an inhabitable amplifier for an experimental electro-acoustic performance

Rhubarb Cottage in Ballysillan, North Belfast was a derelict gate lodge for years before being squatted in 1977 by a founding member of the Green Party; he restored and landscaped the building and surrounding land, creating a tiny landmark home. Emily DeDakis (the current tenant) has invited an assortment of performers to craft small sets that knit into the architecture, wiring the whole cottage with sound and giving the audience an intimate chance to sit close to the performers or wander through the living spaces and garden as they listen. Musicians/sound artists Marty Byrne and Cameron Clarke will play solo electronic sets and finish with their new duet Dúlachán, with Marty on double bass and Cameron playing his 100-year-old harmonium, rescued from a skip (a bit like the cottage itself).

Note: Tickets are limited (the cottage is tiny). There’s some seating & listening space inside, but come prepared to brave the elements in the garden too: camping chairs & blankets are a good shout for comfy outdoor listening. This is a BYO house gig; please respect the residents & neighbours.
