Sound of Belfast x Venus Rising x Bullitt presents: Cartin / Balcony Sunrise / HY:LY

  • Bullitt Belfast 40a Church Lane Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 4QN United Kingdom (map)

Venus Rising is a new creative production company founded by Claire Hall — also known as Venus Dupree. Our mission is to spotlight artists who are either on the rise or already blazing bright with innovation, rawness, and an unwavering dedication to the integrity of their craft.

We are driven by a commitment to quality production and creating immersive, unforgettable experiences.

This is the second of three collaborations across Sound of Belfast with the focus on electronic artists and video artists. This is our first partnership with Bullitt and the unmatchable selector Jonny Carberry.

Cartin

We first discovered Cartin in a dark, underground tunnel party in East Belfast in 2023.

Undoubtedly one of the most electrifying talents to emerge from Ireland in recent years. Derry-based artist Cartin is channelling the live guitar energy from his animated live performances into club focused, electronic rhythms to create his own brand of organic dance music mutations.

Having performed for Boiler Room at the now globally celebrated AVA Festival, toured India as part of a cultural exchange with Celtronic and released previously on Extended Play, Nocturne and Rudimentary Records – with consistent radio support arriving from Jaguar and Sarah Story on BBC Radio 1 – Cartin is ready to take the next step in his sonic revolution. He has always incorporated live guitar elements into everything he does, sitting somewhere between the uplifting elasticity of Barry Can’t Swim, the artistry of Bonobo and the playfulness of Le Boom, Cartin’s productions have never felt quite so distinct as a new level of innovative authenticity bleeds into his work, influenced from years of fine-tuning his live set.

Balcony Sunrise

Balcony Sunrise has become a firm 2024 favourite for Venus Rising.

Balcony Sunrise is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is a collaborative project with brothers David and Stephen. The music is composed on synths and Ableton software and smartly picked guitar lines on a Fender Stratocaster. Producer and multi-instrumentalist, David Ferris, finds his inspiration in the city pop artwork of Hiroshi Nagai, in the music of The xx, Underworld and Orbital and of course the family’s old Dire Straits records.

HY:LY

Another 2024 discovery and an absolute diamond of a producer!

HY:LY is one of the most intriguing new artists to emerge in UK/Ireland dance and electronic for years. A modern siren causing a ripple effect throughout the Irish music landscape.

A multi-instrumentalist with serious production and vocal hops, her live sets are to be seen to be believed. With a love for creating mood & intensity through her music and live performances, crafting a swirling mix of analogue electronica, alternative vocals, noises & rhythms create a genuinely intense and hypnotic abstract melting pot of energy.
