Being offered a contract for your work as a musician is really exciting, however legal jargon is often confusing and it is often difficult to understand exactly what you are signing if you don’t know what the terminology means. Signing a bad deal have long term negative effects on your career in the music industry and potentially cost you a lot of money in expensive litigation further down the line.
Not only is it important as a musician to make sure that you receive legal advice from a dedicated music industry lawyer before you sign on the dotted line, it is also important to have an understanding of what the contract should look like and what the jargon means.
The MU invites you along to our session with music industry lawyer Jonathan Tait (BTO) where we will take a look at different types of contracts, clauses, what clauses should be in there and what to avoid.
