Van Morrison is undoubtedly among the most-distinguished musicians of our times. Celebrating his 80th birthday this year, he continues to tour and perform, and has released a new album, Remembering Now. On this gentle two-hour walking tour, we will explore Van Morrison’s East Belfast. We will walk around the area grew up in, see the parks he played in as a child, the primary school he went to, the house he lived in, and much more. Many of the streets and place names we will encounter, will be familiar to us from the lyrics of many Van Morrison songs. Van’s home area shaped the musician and he pays tribute to it and reminisces about it in many of his songs.
The tour will also reference the area’s history and industrial heritage and several other musicians and writers with links to this part of the city. Short music clips will be played along the way.
A copy of the ‘Mystic of the East’ booklet, prepared by EastSide Partnership, is included in the price.
The tour starts from the EastSide Visitor Centre at 11am, returning to C S Lewis Square for 1pm.
