The Budvar Music Trail presents: Ode to Misinformation: Rarewitch Live hosted by Stephen McCauley

  • Oh Yeah Music Centre 15-21 Gordon Street Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 2LG United Kingdom (map)

Join us for a celebration of disruption through art and music with Rarewitch aka Patrick Maguire. Rarewitch is a visual artist, animator and musician based in Belfast known for his prolific and subversive online animated shorts and outsider folk music. His live performances entail a chaotic fusion of frenetic banjo playing, surrealist humour and anarchic social commentary. Stephen McCauley is an award-winning presenter and producer from Derry. His career in radio began in 2006 with the alternative music programme Electric Mainline, followed by the experimental music show Soundscapes with Stephen McCauley on BBC Radio Ulster. He now hosts the 3-hour alternative music show Stephen McCauley on BBC Radio Ulster on Friday nights which features interviews, sessions and live concerts from the likes of Pixies, Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan, Gemma Hayes, The Divine Comedy, David Holmes, Muireann Bradley and The Cure. He also presented Live at the Limelight and Live at Mussenden Temple in 2024 and was the host for the TV series Sounds New and Collaborations from 2018 to 2020. From the start of his career, Stephen has been a tireless advocate for homegrown music with countless bands, songwriters and producers beginning their radio journey on his shows including Two Door Cinema Club, Ryan Vail and SOAK. Stephen has also been a guest curator at the Sound! Festival of Film Soundtracks at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
